The Heart. The Mother. The Bridge.

The Heart. The Mother. The Bridge.

Throughout the history of humankind  there has always been polarity. We are stretched between our experience as conscious beings compelled by the ineffable and our experience as primal beings bound by survival instincts. Our minds are running one story and our bodies running another. How do we unify this internal divide?

The Heart - The Mother is the bridge between the primordial grit of being and the ethereal infinity of mind and spirit. The heart itself, as science has shared, is loaded with neurons similar to those in the brain and yet unlike the brain it pulses through an endless process of opening and closing to distribute life giving oxygen and nutrients around the body. Opening and closing, expanding and contracting, defining the very beat that nature asks us to dance to in order to synthesize this physical body and this etheric consciousness. On the mythopoetic level the feelings that arise in the heart, love, compassion, jealousy, and martyrdom are the alchemical outcome of the primal instincts of our bodies colliding  with our chattery minds and connection with the world beyond the physical.

Caring for your heart, your internal mother, you regulate and care for the whole. It’s the command center, the diplomat, the caregiver, the source of the rhythm of life. The mother miraculously nurtures the seed of a child within her dark interior holding space for the safe development of a new human being. Her instincts to protect are fierce and her compassion for the small being is tender. We all have the power to follow this model, it’s what we came from. It’s our bridge to harmonize the needs of our bodies and the stories we weave in our minds. Through present moment awareness  we can bring this bridge to its best efficiency, calm, sturdy, and safe allowing acceptance in our internal landscape. You can create a container within you that can hold all the grief and joy, fear and enthusiasm, frustration and liberation safely. When we activate the intelligence of the heart, and draw all the primal energies up  and all the ethereal thought patterns down to rest in it, we enter into harmonious dialogue with ourselves.

The outside world will bring all kinds of opportunities and tribulations but harmony and agreement within yourself is what will enrich this embodied life. It’s a constant process like the biology of the heartbeat. By nurturing your heart, empowering your internal mother to nurture you, you build a strong bridge in your being which unifies both you with yourself and as a result deepens your relationship with life.

Here’s a short practice you can do anytime to nurture your mother heart as bridge.

-Find a comfortable safe place to sit. (It really can be anywhere... at home, at work, at school in the park) and gently close your eyes.

-Take a few natural breaths noticing the sounds around you (no need to name them just notice)

-Take a few breaths noticing the sounds within you see if you can notice  your heart beat , your breath.

-Place your hands on your heart center.

-Feel your hands rise and fall as you breathe.

-Notice any primal feelings alive in you, any fear, desire, hunger, excitement and consciously feel like you are noticing it with your heart -Using the warmth of your hands to remind you to hold your heart as your noticing center. Spend as long as you need  here.

-Notice any thought patterns, ideas or stories present in your mind. Allow yourself to feel that you are noticing them with your heart’s mind. Use the warmth of your hands to remind you to hold your heart as your noticing center. Spend as long as you need here.

-Lower your hands to anywhere that feel comfortable to you and allow your breath to be natural.

-Using your heart, notice the quality of what it feels like to be sitting and breathing in this moment.

-When your ready open your eyes and allow it to unfold into your day.
